Artwell is a Zimbabwean refugee now living in Hoedspruit.

He works only in metal, but instead of sticking to the tried and tested, he likes to push the boundary,sculpting the unusual - pangolins, aardvarks, warthogs and hyenas.

Salome & Joseph go out into the bush and look for pieces of wood that have the makings of a sculpture.

Joseph then sits at home & carves whilst Salome sits by the roadside.

They call their unique sculptures “mannekes”& you will find them nowhere else in the world.

He lives in the town of White River in Mpumalanga Province in South Africa and he spends all his days crafting some of the most incredible pieces one can find anywhere in the world.

Paul

Paul hand weaves his carpets using tree fibre rope. He dyes them using colours and dyes extracted from seeds and tree bark. All his carpets are durable, weather resistant and can be used with outdoor furniture. He lives on the Zimbabwean border with South Africa, he goes home to make stock and then returns to the roadside.
